Thank you and I’m so glad you found the Reverse Interview
Hi, my name is Charles Woolsey
This is the very first episode where I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself, why I’m doing this podcast and what you can expect to hear as you go on this journey with me and my guest speakers.
I believe there is a perfect job for you out there somewhere and I want to help you find it.
It doesn’t matter if you’re about to graduate and get your first “Real” job, or if you’re unemployed, underemployed, or in a job that just doesn’t fit you or even if you want to get ahead in the job you have now… this is the right place to be to enhance your current job situation.
You see, I’ve been in all of these situations plus I’ve been on the other side of the hiring desk.
I’ve been ignored and I’ve been hired.
I’ve hired some wonderful people and I’ve no doubt turned away some great people too.
Finding your perfect job is not an exact science, but there are a lot of things you can do right now to put the odds WAY over in your favor.
This is the stuff I wish I had known throughout my career.
I graduated college in 1981, during a recession when the unemployment rate was high and getting worse. Let’s just say I didn’t have one of the top GPA’s in my class either. There were very few companies on campus that would talk to me because I didn’t meet their minimum GPA requirements.
Why would they want to talk to me? There were plenty of candidates so why not shoot for the ones at the top of the class, right?
I believe there is a lot more to a person besides his GPA, or age, or gender or work history.
I did manage to land a really good job though, but it was because of my attitude and my connections NOT because of my GPA.
It was because of my work ethic and my drive, not my experience.
In my first few years at that first job I patented a device that sold over 1 Billion units and made hundreds of millions of dollars for the company.
Not bad for a kid nobody wanted to talk to.
I’m not saying this to impress you. My GPA proves that I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
I’m saying this because I believe anyone can soar given the right opportunity in the right place with the right people.
There have been times when jobs were abundant and throwing a few resumes around would get you multiple offers… you could take your pick.
That’s not the case now… and old strategies just don’t work any more
It just breaks my heart to see good people out of work. I want to change that.
You are one of those good people, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.
You want and deserve something better… and it’s out there waiting to find you.
I’m here to help, but I’ll tell you up front, I’m not what you would call a “career professional”
I made my living for over 20 years finding solutions to problems for small startups as well as fortune 500 companies and top Universities in America.
Hundreds of places like NASA, IBM, Ford, Coke, Gulfstream and Georgia Tech and Duke University. I’ve been in steel mills and operating rooms and pharmaceutical labs. I’ve seen a lot of things and worked with some amazing people.
I developed a knack for finding unique solutions to complex problems no matter what the industry.
And that’s exactly what I’ve decided to do for job seekers like you.
This isn’t rocket science.
My Dad taught me at a very early age that whatever the crowd is doing is wrong…
That may not always be true, but if you’re looking for a job I’ll tell you right now, you really shouldn’t be standing in the same lines as everyone else. That does not help your odds and only destroys your self-confidence.
This podcast will reveal ways that you can walk around the line of people waiting in line and claim a spot up front as the first one to be considered.
You’ll hear from guests who are career professionals who reveal things that only their paying clients and friends and family get to hear.
You’ll also hear first-hand from some of the top companies in America to find out what they look for and how to get an inside track at companies like theirs.
You’ll hear from the placement offices at top colleges and find out what’s working now
You’ll even hear some motivational stories from people who found their dream job in ways you might never have thought possible.
It’s time to stop worrying about your current situation and start being optimistic about all of the opportunities that await you.
That’s what this show is all about!
